I’m pretty excited that I’ve stumbled Encaustic painting,  painting with hot beeswax tinted with pigment.  The hot wax is layered, and texture, photos, and other materials can be added into the painting to create some pretty dynamic works.

Our Friday Feature Artist, Jamie Ribisi-Braley, is an encaustic painter who also sells her own home-made wax as well as tutorials for getting started.  Check out her “Amount of Tea” paintings – my favorites (I can totally relate) – and this “Hot Mess: Painting With Wax Tutorial”.  I’m seriously considering purchasing the tutorial myself and testing out this new medium!

Bloom Necklace

Here are some photos of one of my latest designs.  I am really enjoying working in my metalsmith shop, experimenting with new designs, forming and shaping the silver, using my torch, playing with texture!

These photos don’t quite do this piece justice – I had to snap them at a recent show before the necklace’s new owner took it home! The hammered texture detail is much more stunning in person.

Look for more new metalwork designs  over the next few weeks!

Thursday Themes { Birch }

Birch – What a perfect spring-time accent for your home decor or accessories.  I love the soft neutral coloring and dynamic texture of Birch, and I’m thrilled with how these artists have incorporated this natural element into their designs:
