Last week I had the opportunity to take soldering lessons! I have been wanting to take lessons for awhile now. Though I have been creating jewelry for several years, this is the first chance I have had to learn to solder. This skill will take my jewelry designing skills to the next level.
My lesson involved making the jump ring bracelet pictured above. I hand-made all of the jump rings, linked them together, then soldered each ring. I added swarovski crystal roundelles for a little sparkle. After soldering each jump ring, I pickled and tumbeld the bracelet to make the sterling silver shine! You can see some of my soldered joints in the pictures above – they aren’t all perfect yet, but I’m pretty pleased with the results! After a little more practice, I will be a pro!
I truly enjoyed the experience, and I am planning to order my own equipment in the near future! I already have a mind full of new designs that the soldering will enable me to create! Fun!

“Expect to have hope rekindled. Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways. The dry seasons in life do not last. The spring rains will come again.”
~Sarah Ban Breathnach
Even though Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow earlier this month, predicting six more weeks of winter, we’re getting some springtime weather in our area! The gorgeous weather we’ve been having has put me in the mood for some springtime designs.
To prepare for my springtime desings, I’ve been doing a little research to see what’s hot for spring. Here is some of what I’ve found:
Pantone has named Mimosa as the color for 2009. This bright hue mirrors the warm and nurturing sunlight we all look forward to as spring and summer approach. It is a fun shade of yellow, full of energy, and sure to make anyone happy. I’ve noticed Mimosa popping up in fashion, home decor, and jewelry designs! Keep your eye out for it! Luckily for me, I picked up some great Mimosa colored tumbled stones back in December that I have been looking forward to incorporate into a design.
Other colors you may notice this spring include: fuchsia, salmon, citron green, palace blue, lavender.
Jewelry Trends to watch for: chunky drop earrings, bib necklaces (close to the neckline), bold and bright colors, layers, clustered pendants, and cameos.
